Tigers Finish Strong at Raleigh Relays Friday
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Clemson track and field program saw its distance group compete across three events at the Raleigh Relays Friday evening. Nine athletes made their outdoor debut for the Tigers, while eight set a personal best in their respective events.
The women’s 1,500 meters got Clemson’s action in Raleigh underway, as Meredith Finley, Grace Hanratty and Riley Coggin contested the metric mile. Coggin led the way for Clemson in the event, as the native of Brentwood, Tenn., ran 4:40.49 to finish 6th in her heat. Finley was the first Tiger across the line in her heat, earning a time of 4:44.02, while Hanratty was close behind in 4:57.93.
Josie Wirtz was Clemson’s top competitor in the women’s 5,000m, crossing the line in 17:32.20 to finish seventh in the opening heat of the event. The time was a 43-second personal best for Wirtz as she entered Friday night’s competition with a best of 18:15.64 set during the 2019 outdoor campaign.
The men’s 10,000m concluded Friday’s action in Raleigh, with Clemson featuring five entries in the first section of the race. Colin Gallagher finished 27th in the heat after running 32:30.20 and was followed closely by Conor McCabe (32:32.98), Samuel Garringer (32:41.84) and Cal Finley (32:45.43). Friday’s 10,000m race was Gallagher’s first in a Clemson uniform and saw the senior earn a 49-second personal best in the event. McCabe, Garringer and Finley each contested the event for the first time in their respective careers.
The Clemson track and field program will now look ahead towards the Florida Relays which are set to be held at the Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida from April 2-3.
