Clemson vs Radford

    Clemson was back at home today as they took on Radford University. The Tigers have fallen out of the rankings after suffering some tough losses. The Tigers will be without Marquise Reed today, as he is still recovering from an injury suffered during the Saint Peter’s game. The Tigers are continuing to struggle against their non-conference opponents, but they were able to pull off a win against Radford.  

 

 

    First Half 

    At the end of the first half, the Tigers lead Radford by one. Shelton Mitchell leads the Tigers with 15 points followed by David Skara with 7. Clyde Trapp leads the team with 3 rebounds and Elijah Thomas has 2 assists.  The Tigers are struggling at the 3-point line, only shooting at 31% compared to Radford’s shooting at 67% for 3-pointers. The Tigers excelled tremendously at free-throws, shooting at 87%. 

 

 

    Second Half 

    It was a struggle to the end, the Tigers had to fight for every last point they got. At the end of the game, the Shelton Mitchell led the Tigers with 20 points followed by David Skara with 16 and Elijah Thomas with 16. Thomas leads the team with 9 rebounds and Mitchell had 2 assists. The Tigers were 30% with their three-pointers compared to Radford who was at 66%. The Tigers still succeeded tremendously at the free-throw line and were shooting 75%. 

    After the game, Clyde Trapp and David Skara addressed the media about the Tigers win over Radford. “We wanted to come out and show a lot of energy and effort and I believe that is what helped us win today,” Trapp said. David Skara who scored 16 points this game attributed the win to his confidence, “I am not much different than who I was last year, I just feel more comfortable and confident in myself.” 

    Head Coach Brad Brownell was very proud of his team and thought they played well against a team who was ready to come to play and eager to play. “All I want to see from our guys is effort and do what we ask them too. I am just really proud of our guys.” Coach Brownell complimented the Radford team, “They are an immensely talented team with a lot of great guys on their team and it is no wonder they have beaten so many good teams.”         The Tigers move to 7-3 on the season and will be back home Tuesday as the Tigers take on Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.

With the win, head coach Brad Brownell ties Bill Foster for second all-time in wins at Clemson (156) … Shelton Mitchell posted his second 20-point game of the season to lead the Tigers … Clemson moved to 6-2 this season when a Tiger scores at least 20 points … David Skara tied his season-high with 16 points – which also ties his career mark as a Clemson Tiger … Skara also tied his career mark for field goals made (6) … 14 offensive rebounds was a team-high this season for Clemson … Elijah Thomas eclipsed 700 career points in the contest (now has 710) … Thomas swatted one more shot this afternoon and now has 119 in his career as a Tiger (just seven away from cracking the all-time top 10 list).
