Tigers Drop Game One
The Tigers looked to bounce back after being swept in the weekend series versus Florida State and loosing in 20 innings to the fourth ranked Georgia Bulldogs. For the Tigers, Davis Sharpe took to the mound as the starting pitcher.
The Blue Devils who are 21-16 on the regular season and 8-10 in ACC play winning seven out of the last eight are riding into Tiger Town high off of a 13-6 win over Texas Tech and looked to keep their momentum going.
To start the game off, Sharpe quickly retired the first three batters for a quick 123 inning.
Sam Hall got things going for the Tigers immediately, Hall would send the ball soaring through the left field line putting the Tigers ahead 1-0.
Grayson Byrd would help extend the Tigers lead 2-0. Byrd would groundout to second base and score James Parker. Immediately following, Kyle Wilkie would single to left field sending Logan Davidson home and the Tigers would extend their lead 3-0 in the bottom of the third.
Duke would bring in a run during the top of the fourth inning as Kennie Taylor would score on a passed ball. Following that score, Matt Mervis would score. Duke would even the score as Chase Cheek would be brought in for a score. Duke would take the lead on a fielder’s choice that would bring Ethan Murray home.
Clemson would even the score 4-4 as James Parker would ground out to shortstop sending Bo Majkowski across home plate. Sam Hall would hit his second home run of the night, this time a two-run homer to extend the Tigers lead 6-4 in the bottom of the 4th.
Duke would narrow the score to one run in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded. Kennie Taylor would score on a fielder’s choice RBI to narrow the score 5-6. Duke would then take the lead on two RBI’s as the Tigers fell behind 7-6.
Sam Hall had quite the night for the Tigers. The sophomore was three for four on the night with two homers and a stolen base at home. Hall was able to even the score 7-7 in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Logan Davidson gave the Tigers the 8-7 lead after he crossed home on a Kyle Wilkie RBI.
Duke would even the score in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game 8-8 and would go on to win the game 9-8.
