Three Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

ACC Release

Clemson, S.C. –  The ACC announced earlier today that Oskar Agren, Charlie Asensio and George Marks have been named members of the 2019 Men’s Soccer All-ACC Academic team. The three honorees for 2019 make it the 10th consecutive season in which Head Coach Mike Noonan has had at least two student-athletes named to the list. Asensio becomes just the sixteenth member in program history to earn the accolade multiple times in a career.

The All-ACC Academic team recognizes student-athletes who have earned above a 3.00 GPA in the most recent semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above, along with having made a significant contribution to their team on the playing field in the most recent season.

Marks’ All-ACC honor comes after the sophomore goalkeeper earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in November. Marks, a Psychology major from Raleigh, N.C., earned 21 starts in net for the Tigers this past season, logging seven solo shutouts and contributing to three others. Marks’ goals against average of 0.914 ranked him No. 33 in the country and third-best in the conference. Marks earned second team All-ACC honors and second team All-South Region honors for his excellent performance in net during the 2019 campaign.

Asensio and Agren, who are Sport Communication and Economics majors, respectively, contributed in all 22 of the Tigers’ matches this past season. The two were a part of Clemson’s defensive unit which tallied 10 shutouts and allowed 21 goals. Asensio, a sophomore from Roswell, Ga., was a member of the University’s Dean’s list in the Spring 2019 semester. Agren, a freshman from Malmo, Sweden, earned All-Freshman honors from the conference for his exemplary play during the past season.

Clemson men’s soccer has now had 34 individuals combine for 59 total All-ACC Academic honors since the award was first given in 2005. Noonan’s student-athletes have earned the award a total of 36 times.
