Seven Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer TeamACC Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson men’s soccer set a program record for All-ACC Academic Team recipients after the conference office announced earlier on Wednesday that seven Tigers had garnered the honor for the 2020-21 academic year. The seven honorees come after the men’s soccer program earned a 3.38 GPA — highlighted by ten players earning perfect 4.0’s — during the 2021 Spring Semester.
Oskar Agren (Economics), Charlie Asensio (Sports Communication), and George Marks (Psychology) are Clemson’s three honorees who have earned the conference recognition multiple times in their Clemson careers. Asensio, a junior from Roswell, Ga., has become Clemson’s seventh three-time honoree and the eighth player in program history to receive the distinction three or more times. Earlier this month, Marks became Clemson’s first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, as the junior goalkeeper currently holds a cumulative 3.93 GPA.
James Brighton (Criminal Justice), Callum Johnson (master’s in Athletic Leadership), John Martin (Health Science), and Quinn McNeill (master’s in Business Administration) each collected All-ACC Academic honors for the first time in their Clemson careers on Wednesday. Johnson, a former member of Boston College’s program, garnered the conference honor for the second time in his collegiate career after having first earned the recognition following the 2017 season.
Clemson is joined by Duke atop the list for most honorees in 2020. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
