Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott Post Scrimmage Availability 8/15

Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott spoke with the media following the Clemson Tigers first scrimmage played in Death Valley on Saturday morning. The Tigers were missing a few key players for the scrimmage as Travis Etienne, Joseph Ngata and Frank Ladson Jr. all sat out due to being banged up a bit, nothing too serious as Elliott and Head Coach Dabo Swinney stated.

Here are some highlights and quotes from my time with Elliott following the scrimmage:

Tony Elliot: "This camp is very different from other camps. Lots of different protocols and stuff that the guys gotta be on top of."

Obviously this camp has been much different from previous fall camps. Shoot, it’s been much different for us media members having to do these interviews and press conferences through Zoom!

Elliot on getting into Death Valley today: "Great to get into the valley. Told the guys to block everything out and just go have fun."

Elliot on Lyn-J Dixon: "It looks like the game is really slowing down for him. He's not always looking for the home run ball and he can communicate with me better."

Dixon set up as the starter today with Travis Etienne not suiting up for the scrimmage. Elliott raved about how the running back has started to pick up on pass blocking more and can communicate with him on the sidelines much easier as camp has progressed.

Elliot: Both DJ and Trevor are out there battling. Thought we had good protection today and excited to go watch some tape."

Elliot on the young receivers: "you can definitely tell those guys put in some work over the summer."

Elliott was visibly excited when talking about his young receivers Ajou Ajou, E.J. Williams and Brandon Spector.

Elliot on Spector: "looks a lot like Renfrow. Think he'll have more top end speed when all is said and done"

Elliott did not shine much light on the COVID-19 season but stated that him and his offense were ready to go out and show what they have been working on for the last few weeks during fall camp.
