In the last two years, the Clemson staff has reached out and plucked a few highly ranked players from North Carolina. RB Will Shipley, DT Payton Page, LB Trenton Simpson, and OG Mitchell Mayes all decided to play south of the NC border. One more could be headed that way.
Big time defensive tackle, Travis Shaw, appears to be ready to make his commitment. Shaw, Greensboro, NC, is currently ranked as the #2 defensive tackle in the country as well as the #3 overall ranked player in the 2022 class. Needless to say, he is the top player in the state of North Carolina.
Back on June 15th, Shaw released his Top 4; Clemson, UNC, NC A&T, and Georgia. He narrowed down his choices from 28 offers and according to 247, Shaw appears to be a heavy lean towards Clemson, but Mack Brown will do everything to keep this big DT at home.
The defensive tackle room for Clemson is deep, very deep, led by Tyler Davis and Bryan Bresee. Backing up these two monsters are several talented DT’s that will be fighting to be “next man up”, including the #5 player from the state of NC in the 2021 class Payton Page. One aspect of coming to a place like Clemson is being able to play beside big time players. Shaw would certainly fit right in should he make his way to Tiger town.
The Clemson 2022 class currently ranks 9th in the country with 12 commitments. The addition of Shaw would jump the Tigers up to #5, right behind Ohio State.
We will all know soon enough. Word is Commitment date is the 21st of AUG,
