Clemson trips down I-85 to the A-T-L and takes on annual rival Georgia Tech on Saturday. The 84th meeting all time between these two “engineering schools” that share more than a history on the gridiron. Clemson and Georgia Tech each had John Heisman of “Heisman Trophy” fame coach at each off these schools in his storied career. The Tigers and Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech have maintained this rivalry for decades… This rivalry is also the birthplace of the famous “2 dollar bills”. . . . originally brought to Atlanta one year to show the city and Georgia Tech the impact that Clemson fans had on the local economy when visiting the city. Once when the series was once threatened to be halted.
A lot of shared history, the short distance for the two schools to drive and both being “engineering schools” all play a part in this rivalry. One the ACC saw as significant enough to schedule the two as cross division games on a yearly basis back when the league spit into to divisions.
Just as in our preview and prediction article we see another game that looks a lot like last seasons game sans the bad weather. The Tigers dominated that game but the weather hindered the game plan from the outset and it was an ugly game. One that saw the Tigers win 24-10 as the defense stifled and stymied the Tech triple option attack all night. Can the Tigers find in Isaiah Simmons what they had in Dorian O’Daniel (the exterminator) who had career games versus the Jackets his last two seasons.
This version of the Georgia Tech defense is not quite as stout on the line of scrimmage and lack size in many areas. Clemson’s skill talent will find its spots and showcase its huge gap in talent will be exposed over and over as the Tigers will open up the playbook on Tech. Showing a few looks they have not shown at this point in the season. Look to see Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross on the field at the same time at some point in this game.
Sticking to our earlier prediction. Get your Varsity Dogs and Frosty Oranges and celebrate on Peachtree Street later in the day. As the Tigers take this one and win #1 of the ACC season.
