CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s 17 athletic programs each exceeded the NCAA baseline Academic Progress Rate thresholds for multiyear rates, according to data released by the NCAA.
Clemson earned a school record seven APR public recognition awards last week, as the baseball, football, men’s basketball, men’s cross country, rowing, women’s golf and volleyball programs each earned recognition among programs ranked in the top 10 percent of their sport nationally in the eligibility, graduation and retention metric.
During the 2016-17 academic year, 11 Tiger programs posted perfect 1000 single-year scores, and each of the 19 programs posted a multi-year rate of over 960.
“The successful progress shown by our student-athletes through the most recently announced APR data highlights the continued emphasis our coaches and academic staff place on classroom achievement,” Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said.
ABOUT THE APR
The Academic Progress Rate is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team.
The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and academic years. Under the revised penalty structure, the Division I Board of Directors has set a cut score of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible sanctions. An APR of 930 projects a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR). The goal of the NCAA’s academic performance program is improvement, not punishment. Not only does the program ensure accountability for student-athletes, teams and institutions, but also it provides fairness by considering individual circumstances per team and school.
