Bridgeman Sets Another Clemson Record
Clemson, SC-Jacob Bridgeman had another record breaking day for the Clemson golf team, but the Tigers dropped from first place to a tie for second as a team at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational at Camp Creek Golf Club in Watersound, Fla. Clemson is in a tie for second place, at 12-under –par 564 after 36 holes, tied with host school Florida State. Wake Forest has a two-shot lead over the Tigers and Seminoles with a 562 total.
Duke is fourth at 569 strokes, while North Carolina is fifth in the 10-team All-ACC field with a 576 score.
Bridgeman shot a second round 66 after his opening 64 that was the lowest first round of a season in school history. His 14-under-par score of 130 is the best score vs. par in Clemson history for the first two rounds of any tournament. The previous record was -11 held by teammate Turk Pettit at the Maui Jim Invitational last year, and by Doc Redman, who was -11 through two rounds at The Jackrabbit in 2016-17.
Bridgeman’s 130 total was one off of Pettit’s total score mark for 36 holes set at the par 70 Maui Jim when he had scores of 66-63 on the way to a 129 total.
Bridgeman has tournament best 12 birdies, and eagle and no bogeys through 36 holes on the par 72 hole Camp Creek layout that is 7,159 yards in length. Starting on the back nine, Bridgeman made birdie on three of his first four holes and shot a four-under-par 32 on the back nine. He added a two-under 34 on the front to finish with a six-shot lead over North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain.
Dating to last year when he won the Palmetto Invitational in Aiken, SC in the final tournament of the pandemic shortened season, Bridgeman is 26 under par for his last five rounds with all of the scores 67 or better.
