Clemson starting quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei met with the media on Monday morning, discussing his three touchdown performance in Clemson’s come-from-behind win over Boston College and previewing the Tigers upcoming game against a top-4 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish team on Saturday.

After Clemson faced a 28-13 halftime deficit, Uiagalelei threw for a touchdown and also rushed for a 30-yard scramble touchdown to help the Tigers secure the largest comeback win in Memorial Stadium history. The freshman said that as the game progressed, it also slowed down for him and he was able to make his reads more comfortable.

Uiagalelei also shared with the media how he got the nickname of “Big Cinco” and what some of his jewelry he wears means to him.

When asked about if Notre Dame ever recruited him, the Cali native gave a laughable answer.

“No they never really recruited me that much. They have a great program, and have their own movie about them, Rudy.”

Uiagalelei also stated that Head Coach Dabo Swinney having so much confidence in him helped him out tremendously on last Saturday against Boston College, stating that it gave him confidence to go out and perform for his coach and teammates.

The true freshman, who is just one of three quarterbacks to win a game for Coach Swinney as a true freshman (Watson, Lawrence) will have his toughest task of his young Clemson career on Saturday. Notre Dame comes into the highly ranked matchup with the sixth best defense in the nation, and has only allowed six total touchdowns so far this season.

Kick is set for 7:30 pm on NBC as Clemson brings its 36-game regular season winning streak into South Bend.
