By Neil Burnett

Dabo Swinney and staff had a fantastic 2020 recruiting class, finishing with the #1 class in college football according to ESPN. The 2021 class is on the same path and getting better every week. Jump forward to the 2022 class.

The state of South Carolina seems to have fallen off talent wise as a while in the 2020 and 2021 class, but there are some pretty good prospects in the 2022 class. According to College Football Today, one of the top players in the state is Jeadyn Lukus, a 6-1 175 cornerback out of Mauldin High School, Mauldin, SC.

As a sophomore, Lukus was in on 31 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, and one interception. Mauldin finished with a 6-6 record, Mauldin will have to find a new quarterback, but does return their leading rusher, and two top receivers. “We are looking good. We lost a few pieces but we should come back strong,” said Lukus, “I can play any scheme but I like man to man coverage the most. I play fast and physical. I also run track.”

As a young player looking to move to the next level what’s important? “I’m looking for a relationship with the coaches. I’ve talked with Coaches Venables and Reed, and we really just talk football.”

The last two drafts, Clemson has put 2 cornerbacks into the NFL in the 1st round. “Yes sir, that’s my goal. I’m trying to go in the first round.”

“Jeadyn Lukus — long with good speed, aligns in bump, tracks the deep ball well, flashes good ball skills, physical at setting the edge, good tackler, good upside with added knowledge, size and strength.: –Tom Luginbill, National Recruiting Director, CFB Analyst ESPN. Look for this young man to get stronger and better over the next two years. He has a bright future no matter where he ends up.
