Clemson Spurs Cavaliers 41-23

No. 1/1 Clemson extended its nation’s best 24-game home winning streak on Saturday night inside of Memorial Stadium, defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 41-23. With a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, senior running back Travis Etienne tied the FBS record of scoring a touchdown (by any means) in 38 career games. Etienne ties the likes of Tim Tebow and Kenneth Dixon. Etienne can break the record next week against the Miami Hurricanes at 7:30 pm on ABC

Trevor Lawrence continues his march to the Heisman Trophy, throwing three touchdowns and completing 25-of-38 passes for 329 yards. The junior quarterback also added 36 yards on the ground. On the year, Lawrence has passed for 7 touchdown passes while completing over 80% of his passes.

Lawrence was joined by Etienne who scored multiple touchdowns, one on the ground and one receiving. Etienne rushed 14 times for 73 yards and was the team’s leading receiving hauling in five receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown reception in the third quarter.

Amari Rodgers also joined in on the touchdown party, recording two touchdown catches for his third career multi-touchdown game. The senior caught six passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Clemson defense was shaky at part of the game, allowing the most points and yards so far this season (23 points and 417 total yards) to the Cavalier offense. Nolan Turner and Andrew Booth Jr. both recorded an interception and freshman defensive lineman Bryan Bresee recorded a full sack.

Linebacker Baylon Spector led the defense in tackles, recording 13 total tackles, half a sack, and one and a half tackles for loss on the night.

Virginia quarterback, Brandon Armstrong, led the Cavaliers in rushing with 89 yards on the ground.

James Skalski: nine tackles, one pass breakup

Derion Kendrick: three tackles, two pass breakups

Brannon Spector: four catches for 32 yards

B.T. Potter: Fields goals from 42 and 47 yards

Clemson will look to continue its home winning streak next Saturday as No. 8/8 Miami visits Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2010. ESPN’s College Gameday will be on-site at Bowman Field and the game will kick off at 7:30 pm on ABC.
